On the diamond: Canyon has put itself in a great position after two big victories last week. The Eagles knocked off arch-rival Randall 6-2 and then defeated Dumas 4-3. Schilling, a senior leader, was pivotal in both of those wins. At the plate, Schilling went a perfect 2-for-2 against the Raiders while going 2-for-3 against Dumas with a run scored. On the mound, the hard throwing righty tossed five strong innings for a win against Randall scattering two hits, allowing one run with four strikeouts.

On the season, Schilling is having quite the year. Offensively, the Eagles leader is hitting .419 with a slugging percentage of .548. He’s added 15 runs, tallied 14 RBIs and has stolen five bases. As for his pitching, Schilling has handcuffed his opponents boasting a record of 8-0 with a 1.50 ERA, racking up 52 strikeouts.

Coach Jed Anderson: “What I love about Bayler the most is probably his attitude. He loves playing baseball and being on the field and that’s contagious. We all know his talents. He can hit, he can field and he is a tremendous pitcher, but I think his confidence has come a long way from even last year. The team loves him, and he’ll do anything for them. He’s always positive and lifts people up no matter what sport it is.”

Schilling: “It’s been a really fun year and I love this team and how we’re playing. This is a big week and we’re just ready to keep battling and head to the playoffs. I think this year more than improving on the field, I feel like my confidence has come a long way. Two years ago as a sophomore I felt like a little kid on the team, but now I feel like I belong.”
