Panhandle pulls away from Wellington
The Panhandle Panthers took over the early lead in District 2-2A by going on the road and handling Wellington 60-46 on Friday night at the Skyrocket Gym.
The Panthers are now all alone in first place of the district with a 3-0 record while moving to 14-6 overall. Wellington falls to 2-1 in district and 11-7 on the season.
Panhandle led 26-25 at halftime, but were able to take over in the third quarter, outscoring the Skyrockets 20-9.

Junior sharp-shooter Luke Schmucker put on a show in the second half. With just three points in the first half, Schmucker caught fire, scoring 18 of his game-high 21 points in the second half. Schmucker also ended the game knocking down six, 3-pointers, with three of those coming in the final frame.
Teammate Caden Armes also played superb following with 17. Despite the loss, Wellington’s Jax Cantu posted 19.
Tascosa ends big week taking down Lubbock Coronado
The Tascosa Rebels and leader LaDarius Godbolt capped off a great week with another big district win. Following a victory against Palo Duro on Tuesday, the Rebels went on the road and picked up a 66-58 victory against Lubbock Coronado in a 3-5A clash Friday night.
GodBolt was once again stellar in the win for Tascosa. Fresh off a 40-point performance against the Dons on Tuesday, the junior forward posted a team-best 25 points to lead the Rebels against the Mustangs. Teammate Demarcus Gillmore added 14 and Ty Collins went for 11.
Tascosa is playing well right now, moving to 16-5 overall and 5-1 in league play. Coronado falls to 2-4 in district and 4-17 on the year.
FRIDAY’S TOP PERFORMERS
Abernathy’s Darion Duvall was hot from start to finish during the Antelopes 74-51 win against Post in a District 4-2A clash Friday. Duvall knocked down nine field goals in the win and was a perfect 7-for-7 from the free-throw line.
Sophomore Chase Fritcher knocked down seven, 3-pointers on his way to 33 points as the Boys Ranch Roughriders rolled past Pringle-Morse 80-44.
Nazareth survived Happy 67-66 in overtime for a thrilling District 4-1A win Friday. Zane Schulte played his part for the Swifts scoring a game-best 29 points.
Amarillo High earned a big 56-39 road win at Lubbock-Cooper to stay atop the District 3-5A standings. Patch Parr did his part with a team-high 16 points paced by three, 3-pointers. Parr was also 3-of-4 at the charity stripe.
Brix Machen had a big game, registering a team-high 15 points that helped Hereford hustle by Borger 80-33 during a District 4-4A clash.
Jackson Funk dropped in a team-best 21 points on 8-of-14 shooting from the floor, for Lubbock-Cooper Liberty during a 64-45 thumping of San Angelo Lake View.
Hunter Hines scored 13 of his team-high 15 points in the first half to lead Frenship Memorial to a 62-24 win against Big Spring.
Brock Butler and Jett Pittman combined for 30 points, scoring 15 apiece, during Gruver’s 72-28 blowout win at Stratford.
West Texas High’s Cayde Winters helped keep the Comanches unbeaten in District 1-2A, dropping in 22 points during a 38-32 win at Spearman.
Clarendon cruised by Highland Park 52-26 led by Caleb Herbert’s game-high 20 points for the Broncos.
White Deer remained unbeaten in District 2-1A with a 76-64 home win against Shamrock. Karson Vaughn was the catalyst for the Bucks, pouring in a game-high 19 points.
