Panhandle knocks off Wellington
In a battle between two of the top teams in Class 2A, Panhandle was able to go on the road and earn a big 48-39 win over Wellington during a District 2-2A showdown on Friday in Wellington.
This game was competitive throughout and as good as expected. The Ettes took an early 15-10 lead only to see the Skyrockets battle back, cutting the deficit 29-27 at the break. In the second half, Panhandle took the momentum in the third quarter with a 12-7 run, going up 41-34 and were able to fend off the Lady Skyrockets in the final eight minutes.
Panhandle stays on a season-long roll, improving to 24-1 overall and 4-0 in district play. Wellington suffers its first district loss, dropping to 3-1 and 19-5 on the year.

The Ettes were led by an inside-outside combination Riley Segura and Allie Ashley, who finished with a team-high 12 points. Brynlee Proffitt continued her strong play, pacing the Lady Skyrockets with 11 points.
Palo Duro takes out Lubbock Monterey
The Palo Duro Lady Dons are showing they are for real each and every week, and that carried on Friday, as Palo Duro defended home court with a big 57-52 win at the PD Activity Center Friday night.
With the win, the Lady Dons stay right in the District 3-5A race at 6-2 while improving to 22-5. Monterey (17-8) slips out of first place in the league at 6-2.
Palo Duro jumped out with a big first quarter taking an 18-9 lead. Holding that advantage at halftime, 34-21, the Lady Plainsman did rally back in the third quarter, cutting the deficit to 41-34. However, the Lady Dons were able to fend off Monterey down the stretch to get the victory.
Tayleeh Meander had a huge night for the Lady Dons, pouring in a team-high 23 points. Teammate Zeinab Deng added 14.
FRIDAY’S TOP PERFORMERS
Dalhart opened District 1-3A with a convincing 55-10 win over River Road. Joie Read and Kammi Maddox did their part in that win combining for 47 of those points. Read led the Lady Wolves with 24 and Maddox tallied 23.
Bushland rolled in its District 1-3A opener by getting an 81-29 win over Tulia. Sophomore standout Berklee Billington continues to pour in the points, scoring a game-high 28 against the Lady Hornets.
Canadian used a big second half to get past Childress 40-22 in a District 1-3A opener. Averi Adams helped lead that charge for the Lady Cats scoring a team-high 16.
Carli Buckley of Shallowater has been on fire of late, and that continued during a 74-17 thumping against Dimmitt on Friday. Buckley posted a game-high 21 points, knocking down three, 3-pointers, and went 6-of-8 from the free-throw line.
Tamblynn Moss did all she could to lead the Pampa Lady Harvesters to a 46-42 victory against Perryton, by registering a team-high 20 points.
Savannah Perez and Elia Alonso combined for 25 points to push Hartley past Wildorado 44-38. Perez led the way with 13 points with Alonso following by scoring 12.
Texline started District 3-1A in style with a 73-20 victory against Adrian at home. Jada Clay had the hot-hand in a 19-point effort, highlighted by five 3-pointers.
Freshman Brylee Thompson had quite the district debut, dropping in a game-best 27 points as the Lady Warriors cruised past Kelton 75-16.
White Deer stayed unbeaten in District 2-1A thanks to a 49-29 home victory against Shamrock. Cooper Cone was the catalyst for the Does, scoring 16 points.
Booker earned a win in the District 1-1A opener by fending off Follett, 47-42. Kylie Harrison was a big reason for the win, dropping in a game-high 20 points.
