The opening round of the Texas High School volleyball playoffs are in the books following a busy Thursday through Saturday of bi-district play. Here’s a recap of how teams from across the Texas Panhandle and South Plains faired including Amarillo High’s sweep of Wichita Falls Legacy, Shallowater’s win against Dalhart and Sanford-Fritch beating Abernathy.
CLASS 5A
The Amarillo High Lady Sandies kept a strong tradition alive with a 25-14, 25-16, 25-8, thumping of Wichita Falls Legacy during a UIL Class 5A Division I bi-district match on Thursday night in Childress.
Thanks to the victory, tradition-rich AHS has won an opening round playoff matchup for over 40-plus years. The Lady Sandies (31-8) advance to the regional quarterfinals where they are set to take on El Paso Chapin (28-7) at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at Seminole High School.
AHS cruised from the first set against Legacy (13-29) and never looked back. Sophomore Harper Vaughan put together her first playoff double-double with 15 kills and 11 assists. Teammate Bennett Rea led the team with 18 assists and went for eight digs, and Kinsler Hanson added 12 kills with eight digs.
[tds_partial_locker tds_locker_id=”26894″]Tascosa is advancing to the second round of the Division I playoffs along with Amarillo High. The Lady Rebels cruised by Abilene High getting a 25-10, 25-15, 25-8, sweep in their bi-district match at Lubbock Monterey High School.
Bennet Berryman and Presley were dominant on defense combining for 29 digs. Berryman paced Tascosa with 15 and Ward added 14. Libby Miller and Addison Merrell set the tone offensively, combining for 35 assists and Berkley Harper benefited with 12 kills.
Tascosa (28-11) is now set to battle El Paso High (26-13) in the regional quarterfinals at 3 p.m. Monday in Monahans.
In Class 5A Division II, Lubbock-Cooper pulled off the comeback of the first round to stun Wichita Falls Memorial in five sets during a bi-district match Thursday night in Childress.
The Lady Mavericks were in complete control up 25-20, 25-12, only to see the Lady Pirates storm back to take the final three sets 25-16, 26-24, 15-9 for the dramatic win.
Lubbock-Cooper (24-12) is headed back to the regional quarterfinals and will play El Paso Burges (21-10) at 4 p.m., on Monday at Odessa Permian High School.
Broox Lopez was all over the court on offense passing out a team-high 41 assists to go with seven kills and four digs. Bry Carlile attacked the net with 14 kills and served up three aces and Konli Johnston had 14 digs with nine kills.
In one other Division II score, Lubbock Coronado saw its season come to an end, falling to Abilene Wylie 25-23, 25-13, 25-13. Despite the loss, Hailee Parrott Curtis had 12 kills and three digs for the Lady Mustangs. Coronado ends a solid season at 22-18.
In Class 6A Division II, Frenship came up short to El Paso Coronado, 19-25, 25-18, 20-25, 28-26, 15-11. The Lady Tigers end a great year at 27-16.
CLASS 4A
It was the start to the postseason West Plains was looking for as the Lady Wolves were able to handle Seminole, 25-11, 25-21, 25-16, in a Class 4A Division I bi-district contest at Frenship High School on Thursday.
The Lady Wolves showed their power at the net behind McNeese State commit, Aaaniyah Kitchen. The senior middle blocker led the Lady Wolves hammering down 15 kills and tallied five blocks during a big night. Kynzie Ward followed with nine kills and Bella Busch tagged on three blocks.
Cecilia Murillo and Bella Wineberg made sure the offense hit its stride combining for 29 assists. Murillo dished out a game-high 15 with Wineberg tacking on 14, and Idaly Sotelo was the defensive leader hitting the floor with 14 digs.
West Plains (31-11) advances to the regional quarterfinals for a matchup against El Paso Ysleta (29-8) at 1 p.m. on Monday at Andrews High School.
In the other Division I match, Dumas fell to Andrews in five sets, 25-19, 19-25, 12-25, 25-19, 15-4. The Demonettes end the season at 21-20.
Frenship Memorial continues to make history in its first year as a volleyball program. Not only did the Lady Panthers earn a way to the playoffs in year one, Memorial has won added its first gold ball as a program after defeating Graham during a Class 4A Division I bi-district match, 25-22, 25-21, 26-24, on Thursday.
The Lady Panthers (27-8) are moving on to the regional quarterfinals to take on Springtown (41-9) at 5 p.m. Tuesday on the campus of Abilene Christian University.
Brooklynn Davis had quite the night helping Memorial to its first win. Davis was clutch on offense with 24 digs and was at the right spots when she needed to be getting 12 digs for a double-double. Outside hitter Olivia Villegas and Makenzie Ivy attacked the net to combine for 32 kills. Villegas finished with a game-high 18 and Ivy added 14.
In one other Division I score, Stephenville took down Big Spring 25-11, 23-25, 25-9, 25-14.
In Division II, Randall is hoping for another deep playoff push after back-to-back runs to the state championship game. The Lady Raiders got the 2025 postseason started on the right foot thanks to a sweep of Fort Stockton, 25-9, 25-15, 25-18, in a bi-district game Thursday in Brownfield.
Bennet Moore served extremely well for Randall with five aces and tacked on 22 assists. Freshman Chloe Brown used her big right hand for 13 kills and Kambree Gonzalez helped the back row with 12 digs.
The Lady Raiders (27-14) will matchup with Fabens (15-13) in a regional quarterfinal at 5 p.m. Monday in Seminole.
Canyon made CISD a perfect 3-0 in the bi-district round with a three-set sweep of Midland Greenwood, 25-15, 25-23, 25-12, on Thursday at Lubbock-Cooper High School.
The Lady Eagles (22-15) now soar to the regional quarterfinals for a date with El Paso Riverside (10-15) at 5 p.m. Tuesday in Andrews.
Brylee McElroy totaled 18 assists with eight digs and London Gibson added 15 assists with seven digs. Laney Jones slammed down 20 kills with five digs and Aiva Kerr registered 13 digs.
Lubbock-Cooper Liberty kept on its season long roll with a win against Glen Rose, 25-12, 25-19, 26-24, Thursday night in the bi-district round at Abilene High.
The Lady Patriots were paced by Campbell Beeler’s 12 kills and Lexie Allgood’s 11 kills. Beeler also added 11 digs for a double-double. Liberty sits at an impressive 41-2 on the season and will have a regional quarterfinal showdown with Eagle Mountain (33-11) at 6:30 p.m. Monday at Clyde High School.
In one other Division II score, Brock knocked off Snyder, 25-17, 25-7, 25-8.
CLASS 3A
A quest for a three-peat is underway for the Bushland Lady Falcons. The back-to-back UIL state champions jumped all over Littlefield for a three-set sweep, 25-9, 25-10, 25-11, in a Class 3A Division I bi-district game Thursday in Littlefield.
The Lady Falcons have now won 14 straight playoff games and are 36-8 on the season. Bushland will move on to the regional quarterfinals for a matchup against Denver City (34-9) at 6 p.m. Tuesday in Littlefield.
Laynee Adams paced Bushland with 12 kills and Berklee Billington had a superb postseason debut with 11 kills. Jaida Scott handed out 20 assists followed by Morgan Eberly’s 18, and Ava Permenter totaled 26 digs.
Shallowater picked up an impressive 25-14, 25-18, 25-20, sweep of Dalhart during a Division I bi-district clash in Dimmitt on Thursday. The Lady Wolves, who end the year at 30-9-2, had no answer for outstanding hitter Emma Clawson. The Shallowater standout slammed home 19 kills on 30 attacks and six digs. Teammate Carli Buckley had eight kills with three digs.
The Fillies (34-9) punched a ticket to the regional quarterfinals to take on Presidio (9-11) at 6 p.m. on Monday at Wink High School.
On the Division II side, Idalou gained a measure of revenge beating River Road in four-sets, 25-18, 19-25, 25-22, 25-9, in a bi-district game Thursday in Hereford.
River Road had eliminated Idalou in this same round a year ago. Idalou (24-15) advances on to the regional quarterfinals to square off with Alpine (24-16) at 6 p.m. Monday at Odessa Permian High School.
River Road ends its year at 23-13.
Idalou’s Brianna Fishback led the team with 11 kills while Hadley Underwood chipped in with 10 kills and four aces. Campbell Ross was strong on the offensive side tallying 25 assists.
On Saturday night, Friona won a thriller, edging Childress in a very good bi-district match, as the Squaws took it in five sets, 25-16, 25-17, 22-25, 22-25, 15-9.
Friona (22-8) advances to the regional quarterfinals and will face-off with Odessa Compass (26-10) at 6 p.m. Tuesday in Denver City. Childress’ season comes to an end at 17-21.
Audrey Bunker was unstoppable the entire five sets for Friona skying for a game-high 33 kills. Peyton McFarland added 15 kills and Ella McFarland handed out 20 assists.
CLASS 2A
Bi-district
The Sanford-Fritch Lady Eagles are soaring on to the second round of the Division I playoffs after handling Abernathy, 25-11, 25-17, 25-15, on Thursday at River Road High School.
The Lady Eagles (22-8) will now move on to face Wink (29-15) at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday at Lubbock-Cooper High School.
Emma Williams had the power knocking down 13 kills with Morgan Lucero adding eight kills. Allison Lovejoy ran the offense with 12 assists and Bryleigh Carr paced the defense getting 10 digs.
In the other Division I match, Olton defeated Highland Park 25-14, 25-22, 28-26. The Lady Hornets season ends at 11-25.
In Division II, Vega fell to Ropes 18-25, 25-17, 25-12, 26-24. The Lady Longhorns, who made it to the regional championship last year, end the season at 17-22. West Texas High’s season also came to an end falling to Plains in five-sets, 25-17, 24-26, 27-29, 25-11, 15-12. The Lady Comanches finish with a 7-19 record.
CLASS 1A
Bi-district
Miami was very impressive in the Class 1A bi-district round during a sweep against Loop 25-13, 25-17, 25-19, on Friday at River Road.
Bentley Brooks was flat out incredible in the victory getting a rare triple-double with 21 assists, 13 digs and 11 kills. Freshman Brylee Thompson was also huge in the win with a double-double. Thompson attacked the net with for a game-high 18 kills and added 12 assists. Ava Lackey finished with a game-high 28 digs.
The Lady Warriors (21-7) will take on Marfa (12-12) in the regional quarterfinals at 6 p.m. Tuesday in Brownfield.
In another 1A bi-district match, Wellman-Union knocked off Wildorado 25-18, 25-10, 13-25, 25-19. The Lady Mustangs end the year at 12-20.
TAPPS Class 2A
Bi-district
The San Jacinto Lady Patriots defended home court during a TAPPS Class 2A bi-district game Thursday by knocking off Victory Baptist Academy Weatherford, 25-8, 25-9, 25-18.
The Lady Patriots had a dominating outing from Blayne Robison, who tallied 13 assists, seven aces and seven digs. Alayna Daniels did her part as well with 12 kills and three aces.
SJCA (33-6) will play at Ovilla Christian (28-3-1) in the area round at 5 p.m. Tuesday.
