The opening round of the Texas High School volleyball playoffs are in the books following a busy Thursday through Saturday of bi-district play. Here’s a recap of how teams from across the Texas Panhandle and South Plains faired including Amarillo High’s sweep of Wichita Falls Legacy, Shallowater’s win against Dalhart and Sanford-Fritch beating Abernathy.

CLASS 5A

The Amarillo High Lady Sandies kept a strong tradition alive with a 25-14, 25-16, 25-8, thumping of Wichita Falls Legacy during a UIL Class 5A Division I bi-district match on Thursday night in Childress.

Thanks to the victory, tradition-rich AHS has won an opening round playoff matchup for over 40-plus years. The Lady Sandies (31-8) advance to the regional quarterfinals where they are set to take on El Paso Chapin (28-7) at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at Seminole High School.

AHS cruised from the first set against Legacy (13-29) and never looked back. Sophomore Harper Vaughan put together her first playoff double-double with 15 kills and 11 assists. Teammate Bennett Rea led the team with 18 assists and went for eight digs, and Kinsler Hanson added 12 kills with eight digs.
