Class 5A
Canyon (2-0) at Palo Duro (1-1), 7 p.m., Dick Bivins Stadium
These two put on a crazy one last year with Canyon scoring 15 unanswered points to rally for a 26-23 win. The Eagles are one of the surprise teams of early 2025 season with gritty outings in wins over Perryton and Andrews. PD not only has that memory from last year it wants to get rid of it has a speed advantage in this one. … Palo Duro 34, Canyon 21.
Pampa (0-2) vs. Caprock (0-2), 7 p.m., Bain-Schaeffer Stadium, Canyon
Cool opportunity here for both teams to play in the palace of all Division II football on the West Texas A&M campus. Simple 1-2 here. 1) Can the Rock score? Caprock enters with back-to-back losses of 51-0 and 48-0. 2) Can The Rock put the clamps on Pampa running back Max Neff who is coming off a 297-yard rushing, 4 TD performance against Plainview. … Pampa 35, Caprock 34.
Tascosa (2-0) at Lubbock Cooper (1-1), 7 p.m., Pirates Stadium, Lubbock
Big-time matchup here and toughest test of the season for the unbeaten Rebs. Tascosa has allowed three points this season, fewest to start a football season since opening the doors in 1958. Cooper will score the first TD against the Rebs this year but Tascosa scores the W. … Tascosa 21, Cooper 17.
Amarillo High (2-0) at Midland High (0-2), 7 p.m., Astound Broadband Stadium, Midland
Midland’s 0-2 start isn’t by way of Cup Cake opponents but from the hands of 6A No. 2 Southlake Carroll and one of El Paso’s best 6A’s in Pebble Hills. Still, the Sandies pour out points like a Plains Dairy pours out milk. AHS first 3-0 start since 2018. … AHS 42, Midland 29.
Lubbock Monterey (1-1) at El Paso Franklin (1-1), 6 p.m. (CDT), Franklin Stadium, El Paso

Lubbock Coronado (0-2) at Abilene Wylie (1-1), 7 p.m., Hugh Sandifer Stadium, Abilene: Wylie lost to Monterey in a tight one last week. Coronado is desperate for momentum after a blowout loss to Lubbock Cooper last week and that season-opening defeat to WF Legacy (a team 1-11 over its last 12 games). … Wylie 38, Coronado 14.
Lance Lahnert
Last week: 4-2 (.666)
Season: 9-3 (.750)
Class 4A
Perryton (1-1) at Randall (2-0), 7 p.m., Happy State Bank Stadium
This will be the second visit Perryton will make to Happy State Bank Stadium this season, as the Rangers opened the season there two weeks ago with a loss to Canyon. Perryton edged Dalhart to get into the win column, while Randall has been rolling along with decisive wins over Plainview and Monahans. The Raiders have been especially prolific offensively, averaging 51 points in their two wins. They might not put up that many this week, but they’ll keep rolling along nonetheless to stay undefeated. … Randall 41, Perryton 16.
Plainview (1-1) at Hereford (1-1), 7 p.m.
These .500 teams enter this week following opposite results from shootouts, as Plainview beat Pampa 49-41 and Hereford fell late to Lubbock Estacado 35-33 despite running 28 more plays. Expect a lot of offense here, as Hereford’s Kalub Ramirez and Plainview’s Seth Mayberry are two quarterbacks capable of making big plays in multiple facets of the game. Being at home will help the Whitefaces this week, as the game could come down to who makes a late defensive stop. … Hereford 34, Plainview 33.
West Plains (2-0) at Lubbock Estacado (1-1), 7 p.m., Friday, Lowrey Field at Plains-Capital Park, Lubbock
West Plains has been as good as advertised through two games, as the Wolves have outscored their first two opponents by a 91-10 margin. On paper, Estacado might present West Plains a challenge as the Wolves likely haven’t seen the type of speed Estacado has. Depth and offensive firepower which the Wolves really haven’t had to tap into too deeply yet, are another matter, and West Plains has too much of it for the Matadors. … West Plains 42, Estacado 14.
Big Spring (1-1) at Borger (0-2), 7 p.m.
Borger took over seven quarters before finally scoring its first touchdown of the season against Dumas last week, and the Bulldogs gave up 106 points in their two games before that happened. Big Spring has to come a long way, but the Steers have shown an ability to put up points. The bus ride could take something out of Big Spring so this should be a fairly close, somewhat defensive struggle, with the visitors enjoying the long trip back home. … Big Spring 14, Borger 7.
Monahans (0-2) at Lubbock-Cooper Liberty (2-0), 7 p.m.
Yet another long trip for a Permian Basin school north, although Monahans faces a shorter trek to south Lubbock. Second-year school Liberty could on a West Plains-like upswing, as the Patriots have scored lopsided victories in their first two games. This one lays out like that this week as well, although Monahans should give Liberty more of a fight than it did Randall a week earlier in Canyon. … Liberty 40, Monahans 15.
Idalou (0-2) at Levelland (1-1), 7 p.m.
Levelland recovered from a season-opening rout against Dalhart to beat Pecos 41-21 and get in the win column. Idalou is still winless after getting thumped by Liberty 55-12 last week. The Lobos have shown the ability to score points, and that plus homefield advantage will be more than enough this week. … Levelland 41, Idalou 21.
Lee Passmore
Last week: 7-2 (.778)
Season: 11-3 (.786)
Class 3A
Dumas (2-0) at Canadian (2-0), 7 p.m.
This is one of the better games on the Week 3 docket. Two unbeaten teams that are well coached and getting their best test to date. It’s very rare the Wildcats are underdogs at home which puts fuel into Canadian. This Demon team seems improved from a year ago and doesn’t forget the Wildcats beating them in Dumas a year ago. … Dumas 35, Canadian 29.
Bushland (1-1) at Midland Christian (1-1), 7 p.m.
The Falcons make a long trip to the Permian Basin with all the hopes of bouncing back from their first loss of the season last week. … Bushland 28, Midland Christian 20.
Clyde (2-0) at Shallowater (1-1), 7 p.m.
The Bulldogs are a talented football team that has shown much improvement, however, Shallowater defends its home turf. … Shallowater 38, Clyde 21.
Panhandle (2-0) at Dalhart (1-1), 7 p.m.
Not many teams have jumped out of the gate like the Panthers have to open the year. The offense is averaging over 60 points a game and Panhandle seems to have an aggressive defense. If Dalhart can’t slow this game down, Panhandle cruises to 3-0. … Panhandle 45, Dalhart 16.
Frederick, Okla. (1-1) at Childress (1-1), 7 p.m.
Through the first two games, the Bobcats defense is farther along than the offense. Let’s see if Childress can start making that offensive turn against Frederick. … Childress 34, Frederick 14.
Bovina (1-0) at Dimmitt (1-1), 7 p.m.
Bovina was very impressive in its season opener last week hammering Highland Park. Keep an eye on standout Angel Lara of the Mustangs. The dude can play. … Bovina 28, Dimmitt 20.
New Deal (1-0) at Slaton (2-0), 7 p.m.
How good has the Tigers looked to open the season. Head coach Clint Conkin’s team maybe making some noise come November. … Slaton 36, New Deal 21.
Abernathy (1-0) at Littlefield (2-0), 7 p.m.
Most recently, the Antelopes have had the Wildcats number. Do things stay the same this year, or does Littlefield nab a W. … Littlefield 33, Abernathy 22.
New Home (1-1) at Muleshoe (2-0), 7 p.m.
Here’s another good one that could be very competitive Friday night. Muleshoe’s Josue Sigala has been on another planet through the first two games rushing for over 400 yards so far. The Leopards are always disciplined and play solid defense. … New Home 29, Muleshoe 26.
Kale Steed
Last week: 3-1 (.750)
Season: 15-1 (.937)
Class 2A
Friona (1-1) at Wellington (2-0), 7 p.m.
The Chieftains are a much improved football team from last season but going into Wellington is never easy. This is closer than some may think with the Skyrockets pulling away. … Wellington 34, Friona 16.
Hooker, Okla. (2-0) at Spearman (0-2), 7 p.m.
it’s been a tough start for the Lynx who seem to be right on the cuff of getting a win. The road doesn’t get any easier with a really good Bulldog team coming across the state line. … Spearman 30, Hooker 27.
Sunray (0-2) at Stratford (1-1), 7 p.m.
The Elks are looking to regroup and prove they are a contender while the Bobcats are a young team trying to figure out how to close out a game. If Stratford can win the line of scrimmage early, the Elks can go home happy. … Stratford 35, Sunray 23.
Clarendon (0-2) at Highland Park (0-2), 7 p.m.
This is a matchup of two teams in need of a win and two teams in need to get better offensively. Give me the Hornets at home. … Highland Park 27, Clarendon 21.
Gruver (2-0) at West Texas High (2-0), 7 p.m.
West Texas High has the firepower on offense to score the points. The question will be can the Comanche defense get the stops they need. The last thing head coach Jeff Smith’s team wants to do is match score for score and chase points. … Gruver 48, WT High 28.
Farwell (1-0) at Sundown (1-1), 7 p.m.
The Steers are riding high after a season-opening blowout win against Texico, N.M. last week. … Farwell 27, Sundown 22.
Vega (1-1) at Shamrock (0-2), 7 p.m.
Both teams had trouble moving the ball last week. Give me the Longhorns run game to travel and carry this win home. … Vega 26, Shamrock 12.
Hale Center (1-1) at Wheeler (2-0), 7 p.m.
As expected, the Mustangs are off to a strong start. Creed Newkirk is lighting up the offense and Jackson Graves is a menace on defense. Hale Center is good but it will be a Wheeler Homecoming celebration by nights end. … Wheeler 34, Hale Center 19.
Ralls (1-1) at Memphis (1-1), 7 p.m.
The Jackrabbits edge the Cyclones in a close one. … Ralls 28, Memphis 18.
Kale Steed
Last week: 10-6 (.625)
Season: 18-7 (.720)
Class 1A
Klondike (2-0) at Happy (0-2), 7 p.m.
The road simply doesn’t get any easier for the Cowboys. After facing two top ten teams to start the season they now get the second ranked Cougars out of Division II. That’s not a recipe for success this week. … Klondike 54, Happy 6.
Southland (0-2) at Kress (2-0), 7 p.m.
For the first time since 2020 the Roos could start 3-0 to open the season. The schedule after this week gets much tougher, but Kress will be flying high after this week. … Kress 62, Southland 20.
Booker (1-1) at Groom (1-1), 7 p.m.
The Kiowas have yet to find an offensive rhythm but that could change this week. The defense, though, better be ready for the spread offense the Tigers will throw at them. This one may be close early, but Booker will be happy on their long drive home. … Booker 62 Groom 30.
Claude (1-1) at McLean (0-2), 7 p.m.
Everything is there for this to be a great season for the Mustangs so they can’t afford to look past a Tigers team that will fight to the finish and is tough to put away. Stran Henderson will put pressure on the defense, but the Claude offense will be too much for the home team to handle. … Claude 58, McLean 34.
Petersburg (0-2) at Springlake-Earth (0-2), 7 p.m.
Both squads have had tough starts to the season, but the Wolverines competition has played a big hand in that. Expect Froylan Agundiz to have a big game against an inexperienced Buffaloes squad. … Springlake-Earth 48, Petersburg 6.
Jayton (2-0) at Valley (0-2), 7 p.m.
A brutal schedule doesn’t get any easier as the defending state champs in Division II follow up the Division I champs from last week. The results will be much the same but don’t look past this Patriots team. They are better than the record says they are. … Jayton 60, Valley 13.
Wilson (0-2) at Lorenzo (0-2), 7 p.m.
Two straight weeks, two tight losses for the Hornets. With the Mustangs coming to town Lorenzo will be buzzing around looking to make a statement. … Lorenzo 70, Wilson 18.
Boys Ranch (2-0) at Hedley (0-1), 7 p.m.
The feel-good story of 2025 must be the Roughriders. After losing 10 games a year ago, Louis Kelly’s team looks much improved and that means another win this week. … Boys Ranch 66, Hedley 13.
Follett (0-2) vs. Whiteface (1-1), 7:30 p.m., Mustangs Stadium, Claude
Just like Happy, the Panthers are one of the blue bloods of six-man football in this area. And, just like the Cowboys, the schedule doesn’t get any easier as the Antelopes are big and tough. … Whiteface 56, Follett 13.
White Deer (2-0) at San Jacinto Christian Academy (2-0), 7:30 p.m.
This is arguably the best matchup of the week. The Bucks look much improved from last season, and the defense is creating turnovers which is leading to points from an effective offense. That defense will be needed against this Patriots squad that is running the ball well. In a close one the road team walks away with a win late. White Deer 42, San Jacinto 38.
Whitharral (2-0) at O’Donnell (1-1), 7:30 p.m.
Most will expect the Panthers to run away with this one, but the Screamin’ Eagles are a tough task on home turf. If O’Donnell can slow down the speed of Whitharral they will have a chance, but that speed is hard to slow down. … Whitharral 56, O’Donnell 44.
Silverton (0-2) at Nazareth (0-2), 7:30 p.m.
The records make this one look like an even matchup but it’s far from that. Despite two straight losses the Swifts have been competitive against two of the better teams in the state. That’s not a good sign for the visiting Owls. … Nazareth 60, Silverton 6.
Lazbuddie (0-1) at Dawson (1-1), 7:30 p.m.
This should be a competitive game and one the Longhorns must feel like they have a shot at winning. Winning, though, is tough to come by on the road. … Dawson 44, Lazbuddie 32.
