After a brief stint out of the area, Jeff Caffey is returning to the Texas Panhandle after being named the new athletic director and head football at Clarendon last week.
“Nothing is better than getting to come back to the Texas Panhandle,” Caffey said. “The Texas Panhandle is home to me and when I was offered the job at Clarendon I didn’t hesitate to take it.”

Caffey, who comes from a coaching family learning under his mentor and father, Stan, brings a veteran presence to the Broncos program. Caffey has spent 26 years in coaching with four stops as a head coach including a recent stint at Shamrock from 2020-2022. The past two years, Caffey has taken a step back serving as an assistant at Colorado City and Big Spring.
“When you take a step back it gives you time to reflect on how you did things and how you can do it better,” Caffey said. “I think I was able to figure out where I wanted to be as a person and get some things sorted out on a personal level more than anything. I’m very excited to be at Clarendon and I’m very grateful for the opportunity.”
In less than a week on the job, Caffey has hit the ground running by getting his staff in place which includes his father, Stan, getting to know the student-athletes and was even in attendance during the Lady Broncos historic regional championship softball series win over Floydada over the weekend.
“I want Clarendon to know that I’m here to positively impact kids,” Caffey said. “Clarendon has a great tradition and they know how to win here. I know they have the athletes to win; I can see it in their eyes. My goal is to come in and bring great energy, show the kids how passionate I am and make them grow into great adults. The community has responded to me very well and it’s going to be exciting to see what we can do.”
