On the court: Despite falling in the Class 2A Division II state semifinals to Nocona 46-41 on Tuesday, it doesn’t hamper what Segura put together last week and all season for a very talented Ettes team that ended an incredible year at 32-4 overall.

Segura came into her own as a sophomore all season and it showed in a pair of playoff wins against Ballinger and Ozona. Segura was a mismatch for the opposing defenses averaging 17.5 points in both victories shooting 65 percent from the floor and 40 percent from beyond the arc. On top of those superb numbers, Segura averaged seven assists in the pair of wins and three steals.

Segura finished the season scoring over 10 points with five boards a game to go with almost six assists.

Coach Rob Schmucker: “Riley stepped up for us this year. She sets the table, she ran the offense and she’s the extension of the coaches on the court. She puts pressure on the rim and has great court vision. I think she really improved from her freshman year with her confidence. She found her game and figured out how to attack. Her leadership comes very natural, and the team always looked to her.”

Segura: “We were a really close team on the court, and I think that’s the reason we were able to be successful this season. Where I was able to improve is because of my teammates and the chemistry. I did feel my scoring abilities had gotten better and I was able to create opportunities for my team. I felt really comfortable as the point guard and becoming a leader.”
