Jalin Conyers catching NFL attention heading into East-West Shrine Bowl

With his college career in the rearview Texas Tech tight end Jalin Conyers now begins his journey of making his NFL dream a reality.

That dream started this past week with Conyers taking part in heavily watched practices by every NFL scout in preparation for the East-West Shrine Bowl that kicks off at 7 p.m. on Thursday night under the lights of AT&T Stadium in Arlington.

Conyers is very familiar with AT&T Stadium from his high school days. As a junior in 2018 the Gruver graduate helped lead the Greyhounds to the UIL Class 2A Division II state championship game against Mart. Though the contest didn’t go Gruver’s way, Conyers made a name for himself catching 12 passes for 224 yards and three touchdowns, setting the Texas Class 2A state title game records in all three categories.

Now, Conyers is back at “Jerry World” ready to make his name once again.

“It’s a huge honor to play in the East-West Shrine Bowl,” Conyers said. “It’s been a great week of practice already and I just want to go show out one more time and impress the NFL scouts”

Though Conyers’ numbers weren’t eye-popping in his lone season at Texas Tech last fall – catching 30 passes for 320 yards – Conyers showed his versatility, athleticism and lured attention with his improved blocking skill.

Through this week of practice in front of the NFL scouts and media, once again Conyers has been impressive during group drills with how much he can provide a future team.

“It’s been fun competing against some of the best players across the country,” Conyers said. “I’ve been learning from NFL coaches, and I feel I’ve represented myself very well. I have a lot of confidence and I’m making the best of every moment. It’s been great to learn from my head coach of this team Shane Bowen, who is the New York Giants defensive coordinator. Cleveland tight end coach Nemo Washington has also shown me a lot.”

On Monday, Conyers received some other life changing news receiving an official email inviting him to the NFL combine set for Feb. 27-March 2, in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Gleaming with joy, Conyers immediately went to his X social media account to break the news himself.

“It was a surreal feeling,” Conyers said. “I immediately called my mom and my coaches. I just can’t wait to get there and prove I belong, and I just need a chance to show what I can do.”

Conyers will play for the West team Thursday night and will be wearing No. 82. The East-West Shrine Bowl will be aired live on the NFL Network.
