Jett Lopez, Amarillo High football, Jr.

On the field: Lopez is putting together an incredible year and playing exciting football leading the Amarillo High pass-happy offense. During a 47-7 win at Lubbock High last Friday, Lopez had the offense clicking going 12-of-20 for 252 yards with six touchdown passes to four different receivers.

Behind those six touchdowns, Lopez made history becoming the Sandies single-season record holder for touchdown passes with 28 through nine games. On the year, Lopez has completed 144-of-228 passes for 2,258 yards on top of his 28 TDs. He’s also rushed for 22 222 yards with seven more scores.

Coach Chad Dunnam: “Jett is a very smart football player. He’s also savvy and understands the game plan and he sees the field well. He has a tremendous arm and a a great head on his shoulders. What I love about him and anyone that’s ever been around Jett is, he knows he can’t do what he’s doing without his teammates. He is always very complimentary of the guys around him and they all play for one another.”

Lopez: “I feel like we’re playing complimentary football on both sides of ball and I love the team chemistry we have. It was really cool to get that record. I had no idea until coach (Kameron) Mathis told me after the game. I’m just grateful for my teammates because I don’t get that without them. I trust them and they trust me to do the right things so we can win football games.”
