West Plains takes over 4-4A lead with home win over rival Randall
In a winner takes over first place of the district race, it was West Plains avenging a loss to Randall from a couple of weeks ago, as the Lady Wolves fought hard through the first two sets before putting the Lady Raiders away in sweeping fashion, 27-25, 27-25, 25-20, at a packed West Plains Gym on Tuesday.
The Lady Wolves (26-11 overall) takes over sole possession of first place of District 4-4A at 11-1 with two games remaining in the regular season. Randall (25-13) drops into a second-place tie with Canyon at the moment at 10-2.
Defensively, AJ Norman was a key factor with 19 digs and Cecilia Murrillo hit the floor for 18 digs. Murrillo also ran the offense with 18 assists for a double-double. Kynzie Ward and Taos McGehee were big on the swings combining for 15 kills.
Randall’s Sidney Soria was a bright spot with 20 assists and 11 kills for a double-double.
Canyon topples Dumas, Hereford beats Borger
Canyon rebounded from a tough loss to Randall on Saturday by handling Dumas in a three-set sweep, 25-23, 25-23, 27-25, at the Joe Lombard Gymnasium on Tuesday night.
Cali McKinley and Sidney Winfrey sparked the offense with 19 combined kills. McKinley powered down a team-high 10 with Winfrey adding nine to go with five blocks. Alainna Bellino paced the team with 21 assists and Landri Jay did her part on the back row with 12 digs.
Sophie Clements had 17 assists for the Demonettes.
Canyon (23-12) is tied with Randall for second place with Randall at 10-2 in District 4-4A. Dumas (21-20) falls into a four-place tie with Hereford at 6-6 in the league.
Hereford was able to pull into that tie for the final playoff spot nabbing a sweep over Borger, 25-23, 25-23, 25-22.
The Lady Whitefaces (23-18 overall) are now 6-6 in the league and right back in the mix tied with Dumas, which is also 6-6 in the district standings.
It was London Baker leading the stat sheet once more for the Lady Whitefaces with a triple-double outing. Baker was stellar on both sides dishing out 21 assists to go with 13 kills and 11 digs.
In the other 4-4A contest Tuesday, Pampa knocked off Perryton, 25-19, 25-14, 25-10.
District 3-5A
Amarillo High clinches outright league title
For a fifth straight year, the Amarillo High Lady Sandies can call themselves District 3-5A champions.
The tradition-rich Lady Sandies took care of Lubbock Monterey at home Tuesday thanks to a 25-21, 25-9, 25-15, sweep.
With only one regular season game remaining, AHS is sitting perfect at 15-0 in District 3-5A and 34-6 overall. Monterey drops to 20-19 overall and 7-7 in district.
Sienna Cavalier put a stamp on a fun night knocking down 15 kills with eight digs. Payton Cash and Bennett Rea combined for 30 assists and Halee Adams chipped in at the net with five blocks.
With the Monterey loss, Lubbock Coronado stayed a game ahead of the Lady Plainsman for fourth place in the district after beating Caprock, 23-25, 25-4, 25-14, 25-18. The Lady Mustangs (22-17) are 9-5 in league action.
Tascosa sweeps season series from Lubbock-Cooper
The Tascosa Lady Rebels went on the road and picked up a huge four-set win over Lubbock-Cooper on Tuesday, 26-24, 25-20, 8-25, 25-19.
The Lady Raiders were able to make it a clean season sweep of the Lady Pirates and former Amarillo High head coach Mike Moffitt.
Tascosa gets its 30th win on the year moving to 30-9 overall and is in control of second place of District 3-5A at 12-2 with two regular season games remaining. LCP (27-12) are now 11-3.
Offense was clutch for the Lady Rebels with Addison Merrell going for 20 assists followed by Libby Miller’s 18. Gabbie Mason benefitted from the passing with 10 kills with Berkley Harper adding eight. Bennet Berryman was strong on defense with 19 digs and served the ball well totaling three aces.
In another 3-5A meeting Tuesday, Lubbock High swept Palo Duro 27-25, 25-22, 25-15.
District 1-3A
Bushland cruises, River Road downs Dimmitt
It was another quick night of work for the Bushland Lady Falcons during a road sweep at Dalhart, 25-16, 25-14, 25-15.
With the victory, the Lady Falcons (37-4, 6-0 in district) secure the District 1-3A championship while extending their incredible league win streak to 95 straight games dating back to 2011. Dalhart falls to 5-2 in District 1-3A play and 24-8-1 overall.
Ambree Hatfield drove home a team-high 11 kills followed by LillyAnn Shannon’s 10. Mackenzie Sims led the offense with 23 assists.
River Road stayed in the third-place spot traveling to Dimmitt for a 25-10, 25-13, 25-18 sweep.
The Lady Wildcats move to 3-3 in the district standings and 22-12 overall.
Hailey Mayes had a monster effort to lead River Road with 11 digs, nine kills and seven aces. Reese DeHart put together another double-double effort with 22 assists, 11 digs and served up six aces.
District 1-2A
Vega keeps on winning
From one win four short years ago when the volleyball program started to earning a 30th win this season alone is quite the accomplishment for the Vega Lady Longhorns.
Vega made that possible going to Stinnett and taking care of West Texas High in four-sets Tuesday, 25-16, 25-21, 20-25, 25-19.
Vega picks up a milestone 30th win on the year as the Lady Longhorns improve to 30-5 overall. Vega also clinched a share of the District 1-2A title staying perfect at 4-0. WT High (20-12 overall) drops to 1-3 in district action.
Lady Longhorn standout Jaz Martinez drove home 11 kills with 10 digs. Teammate Tayson Schenk also had 11 kills with four blocks.
Sanford-Fritch survives Highland Park in five
For a fourth straight match, Sanford-Fritch found itself in another lengthy outing playing yet another five-set classic.
On Tuesday, the result turned out in the Lady Eagles favor as Fritch rallied past Highland Park for a wild win, 22-25, 25-22, 25-20, 17-25, 15-2.
Rhyah Payne stepped up for the Lady Eagles delivering 22 kills and played big at the net getting 11 blocks. Teammate Emma Williams followed with 19 kills and Saydee Williams was great on the back row with 19 digs.
Highland Park’s Bria Delgado finished with 17 digs.
Fritch (25-6 overall) is now at 2-2 in District 1-2A. The Lady Hornets (19-18) fall to 1-3.
District 1-1A
Fort Elliott sweeps Shamrock, Miami Stuns Wildorado
With a win on top of a Wildorado loss Tuesday, the Fort Elliott Lady Cougars not only kept a perfect league mark intact, but also clinched the outright District 1-1A championship.
Fort Elliott made that happen by downing Shamrock in three-sets, 25-23, 25-8, 25-14, at home Tuesday.
The Lady Cougars clinch the outright title moving to 8-0 in district play and 16-6 overall. Shamrock falls to 15-12 overall and 4-4 in the league.
After getting swept by Wildorado a couple of weeks ago, Miami turned the tide by upending the Lady Mustangs on Tuesday night with a four-set victory, 25-19, 23-25, 27-25, 25-17.
The Lady Warriors (12-16) move to 3-5 in District 1-1A. Wildorado (8-14) drops to 5-3 in district.
Kaili Benge and Bentley Brooks were absolutely incredible in the victory. Brooks hit the floor for 34 digs adding 19 kills for a double-double while Benge led the back row with an eye-popping 43 digs.
In the other 1-1A matchup Tuesday, Kelton defeated Darrouzett, 25-5, 25-13, 25-12. The Lady Lions improve to 10-7 overall and 4-4 in district action.
