On Friday night, the Greyhounds continued to roll by sweeping the season series from West Texas High behind a big shooting night from Caden Armes in a 64-50 victory at the Greyhound Gym.

Gruver (19-9 overall) moves to a perfect 9-0 in district while the Comanches (20-7) fall into a second-place tie with Stratford (8-9) in the league race at 5-4.

Armes had his shot going most of the night knocking down five 3-pointers to finish with a game-high 23 points. Colt Mathews complimented Armes scoring 13 points while Briggs Satterfield added 11.

Canadian keeps cruising

In one of the more unlikely stories of the new year, the Canadian Wildcats, a team known for their gridiron play, are showing they can get it done on the hardwood as well.

The Wildcats stayed perfect in District 1-3A once more by taking a hard-fought home win over River Road 53-44 at home on Friday night.

Canadian (14-3 overall), a team that didn’t start basketball practice until right before the Christmas Break, has already wrapped up the District 1-3A championship with a 9-0 mark. River Road (17-14) is locked in the playoffs as well in the middle of the pack at 5-4.

Riggs Pennington was the difference maker for Canadian posting a game-high 22 points with 14 of those coming in the first half. Teammates Camren Cavalier and Connor Miller each followed with 11 points.

Friday’s top performers

Julian Cervantes drove Perryton to a huge 80-72 win over Hereford in overtime thanks to a career outing scoring an eye-popping 36 points.

Behind JaCorey Fields 26 points the Tascosa Rebels were able to survive on the road avoiding an upset-bid from Plainview 69-68. The Rebels erased a six-point deficit in the final two minutes of the contest.

Clarendon’s do-it-all standout and recent Sam Houston State football commit Lyric Smith went off for a game-high 26 points as the Broncos blew past Wheeler 79-38.

Randall’s Jaxon Toniolli poured in a game-high 20 points in a 95-44 rout of Borger to keep the Raiders a perfect 13-0 in District 4-4A.

Kelson Jones helped the Canyon Eagles soar past Dumas 44-29 by posting a game-high 21 points.

The duo of Aiden Allen and Billy Moore was tough to stop combining for 44 points in Childress’ 63-41 victory against Slaton. Allen led the way with 24 points with Moore following with 20.

Freshman Kade Schneider helped the Bushland Falcons secure second place out of District 1-3A with his game-high 15 points in a big time 53-47 road win at Spearman on Friday night.

Corey Stancell along with teammate Ryder McElroy each had 19 points that were enough to lift Farwell past a tough Panhandle team 63-54 in overtime keeping the Steers unbeaten at 9-0 in District 3-2A.

Booker’s Hagen Chisum continued his stellar play lighting up Sunray for 23 points in a 55-39 win for the Kiowas.

Maddox Miller of Follett tallied 19 points as the Panthers cruised to a 53-23 victory against McLean.

Happy’s CJ Moore poured in 21 points during a 68-27 win over Lazbuddie.

Behind Jaxson Richards 27 points and teammate BJ Britton’s 22 points and eight rebounds, Ascension Academy capped off an unblemished regular season thanks to a 75-35 win over Lubbock Southcrest. The Cardinals head to the TAPPS Class 2A playoffs with a 21-0 record.
