Addyson Bristow, Canyon cross country, Soph.

On the course: Bristow carried her strong momentum from last spring into the 2023 fall with a fantastic performance at the Burkburnett Cross Country Jamboree last Thursday. Running in the Class 6A-5A Division, the Lady Eagles won the meet with a perfect score of 15 points with Bristow leading the way by clocking a 3-mile time of 15:57.32 to win the individual championship. Bristow, a sophomore, is coming off a great spring as a freshman where she earned a gold medal as a part of the Canyon mile relay team and a silver medal in the 800-meter race.

Coach Ray Baca: “We saw a lot of potential in Addyson when she was in junior high. You could just tell she was going to be special. She really came on last year during track season. Abree Winfrey (who now runs at the University of Kansas) had a huge impact on her and her confidence has grown tremendously. Addyson will definitely be a favorite going into the state meet later this year. She’s so fast and it’s amazing how good she is. She believes in herself and that makes such a difference.”

Bristow: “Running at Burkburnett was definitely a much different race from the relays we’d ran to start the year and it was very humid. I was able to just go out there and accomplish my goals and every time I run my teammates, and I are just trying to improve. We have a great team and It’s special to be a part of. I really am believing in myself and I just want to continue to push myself to get better and help my team anyway I can and get my times lower.”
