Region I-3A
District 1-3A showed off how dominant it was this season with the Dalhart and Canadian girls’ teams both finishing in the top four at the Region I-3A Cross Country Meet.
The Lady Wolves finished with a silver medal tallying 84 points. Canadian took the fourth and final spot 174 points. Holliday (84 points) won the regional championship with Jim Ned coming in third.
Freshman Circe Johnson ran a time of 13:04.4 to place 13th individually for Dalhart. Teammate and freshman Victoria Terrazas (13:14.9) came in 21st. Canadian’s Konnar McClendon had a solid race finishing with a bronze medal clocking a 12:31.2, followed by teammate Arionna Black (12:48.9) who also finished in the top 10 with a seventh-place finish. Friona’s Yvonne Legaretta (12:30.1) came in second individually passing McClendon in the final 200 meters to win the individual silver medal and qualify for state, Tulia’s Diana Briones punched her ticket as an individual thanks to a 13:09.3.
Region I-1A
Springlake Earth standout Taytum Goodman kept her stronghold on Region I by winning her third straight individual gold on Tuesday.
As expected, the junior and now three-time Region I-1A champion, left the field in the dust racing to an impressive 2-mile time of 11:06.4. Goodman’s 2-mile time was the best Region I time from Class 4A to 1A by more than 30 seconds. Thanks to Goodman’s effort the Lady Wolverines also won the team title registering 97 points.
As for Amarillo-area schools, White Deer placed right behind Earth in second place to advance to state with 105 points, and Nazareth followed in third with 109 points. White Deer’s Kelsi Vaughhn (13:19.7) led the Does running to a ninth-place individual finish. Freshman Madison Brockman of Nazareth paced the Swiftettes with a 12th place finish clocking a 13:26. Claude’s Renee Fouquet (13:19.3) and Shealee Brannon (13:22.3) each advanced as an individuals, as did Silverton’s Melody Rampley (13:22.9), and Groom’s Ali Friemel (13:51.5).
Individually, Happy’s Brance Ferguson led his team coming in eighth pacing a 18:08.3. Texline’s Joe Clay (18:37.1) was 16th. Silverton’s Alex Acevedo is headed to Austin taking third place clocking a 17:42.5. Joining Acevedo as an individual is Nazareth’s Bryson Brockman (18:20.3), Claude’s Hunter Lovell (18:29.2), and Hedley’s Joshua Booth (18:32.5).
Region I-5A
Amarillo High’s Emily Milsow highlighted the Region I-5A with a solid showing. The Lady Sandies junior came in 15
th overall running a time of 19:31.1 to earn a trip to state as an individual. As for the team standings, AHS placed 10th overall with 268 points, and Tascosa came in 18th place with 425 points. Colleyville Heritage was the regional champion tallying 69 points.
Neither the Amarillo High nor Tascosa advanced during the boys race. Amarillo High finished ninth overall with 196 points, and the Rebels placed 17th with 431 points. Tascosa’s Emilio Salas (16:33) led all AISD competitors placing 23rd individually.
