Tournament recap – Hereford volleyball wins Granbury Tournament

Despite falling to Amarillo High during Friday’s pool play of the stacked Granbury Tournament, the Hereford Lady Whitefaces bounced back in a big way with three wins on Saturday to claim the Granbury Tournament Gold Bracket championship.

Hereford opened the quarterfinals by beating Birdville, 25-22, 25-20, advanced past the semifinals in a hard-fought victory over Midway, 30-28, 25-22, then swept Richland in the championship game, 25-15, 25-18.

Outside hitter Nickilah Whatley was named Tournament MVP. The senior knocked down 24 kills on Saturday, adding eight blocks. Teammate Camryn Blair was named to the All-Tournament team with 25 kills on Saturday.

Hereford went 8-1 over the three days and are now 14-4 overall.

Randall was also competing at the Granbury Tournament over the weekend. The Lady Raiders beat Keller Central to win the Silver Bracket Championship finishing with a 7-2 record for the weekend.

Junior outside hitter Jordyn Gove was named to the All-Tournament team racking up a total of 77 kills for the tournament with 77 digs. Teammate Sidney Soria dished out 181 assists. Randall is now 14-6 overall on the year.

Amarillo High ended up with a top five finish at the Granbury Tournament. Senior setter Jo Moffitt was named to the All-Tournament team while reaching a career milestone in the process. Moffitt totaled 165 assists during the three days putting her at 2,126 assists for her career.

Bushland went 6-1 for a top five finish at the Glen Rose Tournament. The Lady Falcons (12-4) were led by Kaela Neie’s 64 kills, Madyson Eberly’s 51 kills, Jada Permenter’s 71 digs and Logan Culpepper’s 132 assists.

West Plains continued its strong start as a program going 6-1 at the Graham Tournament. The Lady Wolves are an impressive 16-1 overall.

Dumas also played in the Graham Tournament winning the consolation bracket beating District 3-4A rival, Pampa, 20-25, 25-15, 25-18. The Demonettes are off to a 14-7 start to 2022.

Borger went 4-2 and finished in second place at the River Road Tournament. The Lady Bulldogs beat Palo Duro 25-21, 25-21, then beat Dalhart, 19-25, 27-25, 25-18, before falling to Lubbock All Saints in the championship game, 25-19, 18-25, 18-25. Libero Avery Lopez led Borger with 48 digs and 12 aces on Saturday.

Highland Park won the consolation bracket of the River Road Tournament beating Palo Duro, 19-25, 25-21, 25-19. The Lady Hornets finished the tournament 5-1. Head coach Matt Taylor earned his 100th win at Highland Park over the weekend.
