Less than two weeks after entering the ever growing NCAA transfer portal, former West Texas A&M sharp shooting standout, Lexy Hightower, has found a new place to call home.

Hightower, an Amarillo High graduate, announced via her social media accounts Saturday she’ll be continuing her basketball playing career right down the road for former Lady Buff coach, Krista Gerlich, at Texas Tech University.

“I’m excited to be a Lady Raider,” Hightower said. “I’ve known coach Gerlich for a longtime. She recruited me when she was UT Arlington, and I went to her camps as a kid when she was at WT. This is just a really exciting step for my playing career.”

Hightower will go down as one of the most heralded players to ever wear a Lady Buff uniform. Hightower spent four years on the court at WT, playing in 116 games, finishing sixth on the all-time scoring list with 1,642 points.

The now Lady Raider was a three-time All-American selection at WT, as well as a two-time Lone Star Conference Player of the Year that included this past season.

“I’ll always be a Lady Buff,” Hightower said. “Playing so close to home, and being able to be a part of a proud tradition like WT meant so much to me. I did think at times of hanging it up. I took a couple of weeks after the season, and after thinking about it, I just figured I could start my future later, and give basketball one more run. This is exciting, and I can’t wait.”
