Caprock had to go on the road for its first win of the season, breaking a tie in the fourth quarter for a 25-18 win at Perryton.
While Caprock (1-2) had been stout defensively through two games, the Longhorns struggled offensively, but they may have found a quarterback in Bowen Davis, who completed 10-of-19 passes for 150 yards, a touchdown and no interceptions. Kobi Hill had a breakout game at receiver as well with four catches for 140 yards and two touchdowns.
Perryton (1-2) took an 11-0 lead at the end of the first quarter, but in an unusual twist, the Longhorns responded with 11 points in the second quarter to tie it 11-11 at halftime. That’s the way it stayed until the fourth quarter, when Caprock took the lead for the first time.

Pampa crushes Borger
One of the most anticipated rivalry games in the area was no contest, as Pampa jumped out to an early lead and never looked back to rout Borger on the road 51-17.
It’s Pampa’s seventh straight win against Borger in this 92 year rivalry.
Sam Anguiano threw for 193 yards and three touchdowns to highlight Pampa’s offense, and Cornelius Landers ran for 95 yards and two scores. Hunter Dyer was the leading receiver for the Harvesters (2-1) with six catches for 105 yards and a touchdown, and Jordan Lacy had five catches for 60 yards and two scores.
Borger fell to 1-2 on the season.

Smotherman kicks Canyon to victory
Elijah Smotherman kicked a 41-yard field goal with three seconds left in the game to cap a big comeback as Canyon defeated Lubbock Estacado 16-13 at Lowery Field to give first-year coach Todd Winfrey his second straight win.
Canyon (2-1) scored the first points of the game by tackling Estacado quarterback Colby Sims in the end zone for a safety and a 2-0 lead in the first quarter. But the Eagles struggled offensively for awhile, and they fell behind 13-2 as Estacado (1-2) scored two touchdowns in the third quarter.
However, Smotherman kicked the first of his two field goals from 27 yards out in the third quarter to cut it to 13-5. In the fourth quarter, Dario Bressler scored on a 1-yard run and Derrek Clements carried it in for a two-point conversion to tie it 13-13.
That’s the way it stayed until Smotherman booted his second field goal for the game-winner.
Bressler ran for a game-high 130 yards on 27 carries. Canyon’s defense was stellar, holding the Matadors to 176 total yards.
