Spearman’s Cade Seaman makes an interception during a 24-6 Lynx win at Vega on Friday night. [Ernie Bowen/ Press Pass Sports]

Spearman defense stifles Vega

It wasn’t the offensive outburst many expected.

Spearman’s defense didn’t allow that to happen in a very physical football game that saw the Lynx get a big 24-6 victory at Vega on Friday night.

Due to injuries at key positions, and playing without four-star Division I prospect Brenen Thompson, the Lynx did just enough on offense and used their defense to make life miserable for Longhorns quarterback Ryan Grawunder.

The Spearman defense picked off Grawunder two times converting those turnovers into 10 points. Brayden Klafka picked up the second interception midway through the second quarter, turning that Vega miscue into a touchdown moments later. On Spearman’s ensuing drive, Klafka, also playing quarterback found Cade Seaman who got behind the defense for 35-yards giving Spearman a 10-0 halftime lead.

The Lynx sealed the game in the third quarter behind Klafka once more. Klafka weaved his way through the Longhorn defense for a 10-yard run that iced the game 17-0 with four minutes left in the third.

Klafka was one of three quarterbacks used by Spearman. The senior standout rushed for 110 yards, threw for 38 and combined for two touchdowns.

Fabian Hernandez added a 27-yard touchdown run.

Spearman held a potent Vega offense to 147 total yards.
